Interview Tips: Stay Focused While You Wait

Whether it is a job interview or a visa interview there will be a point of wait. This could be waiting for the interviewer to come pick you up from the reception or standing in the visa line for an hour before you talk to the immigration officer. Along with your technical skills and communication abilities you should develop the required patience and concentration. While you wait, do not let your mind wander about your evening plans or  places you want to visit once you are abroad. You should use this wait time to revise what you have prepared and to organize your thoughts. This will make your brain stay focused on the task at hand.

You can revise on topics like these:

How should I introduce myself to the HR?
How should I talk about the salary?
How should I talk about my intentions in going to the US with the Immigration Officer?

Revising your 'About Me' is not a bad idea.

Time for a Self Check
 

When you are at your best and have answered every single question in a particular round do a self check for over confidence. This will help you not to over talk or show off later. The wait time is a good time to put yourself back to equilibrium and use the confidence from your previous rounds to breeze through the rest of the interview process.
 

It’s not over
 

No matter how bad you did in the previous rounds never give up. The interview results are not based on your performance in a particular round alone. Use the wait time to pull you strengths together and do your best in the next round.
 

Before the bell rings for the next round, use the wait time to your benefit.

సింహపురి కధలు : సుడిగుండం

ఈనాడు ఆదివారపు పుస్తకంలో అంకెలు కలుపుతూ బొమ్మను పూర్తిచేసి పుస్తకం అమ్మకు ఇచ్చానో లేదో ఎదురుగ్గా వెనకింటి వంసీ. హరి,అంజద్ వాల్లు వచ్చి సందు చివర వున్నారని తీసుకు వెల్లాడు.

హరి:

పెన్నా నది లో ఈతకి వెల్తున్నాం.వస్తావా?

నేను:

నేను రాను.నాకు ఈత రాదు.అదీ కాక చూస్తెనే మనసుని ఆనందంతో నింప్పేస్తూ ప్రవహించే పెన్నా నది చాలా లోతు వుంటుందని ,వర్షా కాలంలో ప్రమాదకరమని, పెన్నా బ్యారేజి పై నుంచి మా వూరికి వెల్తున్న ప్రతి సారి తాతయ్య అంటారు.

హరి:

మా తమ్ముడికి కూడ ఈత రాదు.వూరికే దిగి ఆడుకొని వచ్చేయడమే.ఎదన్నా అయితే నేను కిషోర్ వున్నాము కదా.

నేను:

అయినా అక్కడికి బస్సులు ఏవీ వెల్లవు కదా. ఎలా వెల్తారు? నడిచా?

హరి:

నువ్వు చాల విషయాలు తెలుసుకోవాలి.సరే,నువ్వు ఎలాగో రావు.ఎంత త్రిల్లు మిస్స్ అయ్యావో రేపు స్కూల్లో తెలుసుకో.

ఇలా నేను రానని చెప్పటం ఇది మొదటి సారి కాదు, ఇలాంటి పనులు వాల్లకి కొత్తా కాదు.ఇంతకు ముందు ఇలానే సింహపురి చెరువు దగ్గర వేటకని వెల్దాం అని వచ్చారు.పోలీసు గ్రౌండు దాటుతూ అస్తమిస్తున్న ఎర్రటి సూర్యుడి వైపుగా పది నిమిషాలలొ సైకిల్ తొక్కితే ఏటి గట్టు చేరుకుంటాం.అక్కడే సింహపురి దర్గా కూడా వుంటుంది.ఏటా వో సారి ఆగస్టు నెలలో ఇక్కడ రొట్టెల పండుగ కుల మత బేదాలు లేకుండా జరుపుకుంటాము.ఆ రొట్టెల పండుగకు తప్ప ఎప్పుడూ అటు వైపు వెల్లని నేను అమ్మకు భయపడి వేటకి రానన్నాను.

వేట అంటే ఎదో బానాల తొనో తుపాకీలతొనో వూరి పై బడ్డ జంతువులను సమ్హరించడమో,తిమింగలాలు పట్టడమో కాదు.క్యాడ్బాల్ కి రాయి పెట్టి లాగి వదలడమే.తగిలితే కొంగ లేకపొతే రాయి చెరువులో తల కిందులుగా మునకేస్తాయి.అది ఎంత రక్తపాతం తో కూడిందో వో సారి మా పనబ్బాయి మురలీ చెప్తే విని వాడి పై కోపం,అసహ్యం కలిగాయి.అయినా హరి గాడి నాన్న గారు సింహపురి లొనే పెద్ద కాంట్రాక్టరు,వీడికి ఈ రాక్షస బుద్దులు ఏమిటో?

మరుసటి రోజు,స్కూలుకి తయారవుతూ పేపర్ హడావిడిగా తిరగేస్తున్న నేను సింహపురి సంచిక చూస్తూ కాసేపు అలనే వుండి పొయ్యాను.పెన్నా నది పై పెను విషాదం -  ఈతకని వెల్లి ఇద్దరు బాలుర దుర్మరనం.పరుగెట్టి వంసీ వాల్ల ఇంటికి వెల్లాను.వాడు అప్పుడే లేచి పొల్లు తోముతున్నాడు.ఆకరి నిమిషంలో వాల్ల తాత గారు వూరి నుంచి రావడంతో వాడు వెల్లలేదు.ఇద్దరం అంజద్ ఇంటికి పరుగులు తీసాం.కాంట్రాక్టు పనులకు నదిలో ఇసుక తవ్వి దొంగలించడం వల్ల లోతయిన గొయ్యలు ఏర్పడి,వర్షా కాలంలో జోరయిన నీటి ప్రవాహం వల్ల ఆ గొయ్యిలలో సుడిగుండాలు తయారవుతాయి.లోటు లేదు కదా అని అడుగేస్తే, సుడి గుండం లోపలకు లాగేసి అడుగున బురదలో హరి తమ్ముడు మనోజ్ కాలు ఇరుక్కు పోయిందంట.వాడిని కాపాడాలని దూకిన కిషోర్ కూడ ఇరుక్కు పోయాడని తెలిసి ఏడుపు వచ్చింది.హరి ఇంకా పరారీలో వున్నాడని తన గదిలోంచి బయటకు రాని అంజద్ ఏడుస్తూ చెప్పాడు.

అన్నింటికంటే వాల్లు అక్కడకి చేరిన తీరు చదవి నా వల్లు జలదరించింది.చెత్త తీసుకెల్లి పెన్నానది కి అవతల వైపు తగలబెట్టే మునిసిపాలిటీ ట్రాక్టరు వెనకనుంచి పరుగెత్తి ఎక్కి , యమ పాశం మెడకు చుట్టుకున్నట్టు తలుపు,గొళ్ళాలు పట్టుకొని వ్రేలాడుతూ వెల్లారట.

స్కూలుకి ఆరోజు సెలవ ప్రకటించారు.

సింహపురి కధలు:అమ్మ మాట - కోట గోడ

ఇ మూడంతస్తుల మేడ వుంది చూసారు ,అది మహేస్వర రావు గారిది .నాకు వూహ తెలిసినప్పటి నుంచి ఇక్కడే కింద వాటాలో అద్దెకు వుంటున్నాము.పక్కనే ఆనుకొని వున్న రెండు అంతస్తుల భవనము ఆయన తమ్ముడు చంద్ర సేకర్ రావు గారిది.దానికి అవతల సింహపురి గ్యాస్ కంపెనీ.ఇంటికి ఇటు వైపు కారు-లారి డ్రైవింగు స్కూలు.ఇంటి బయట రక రకాల పూల చెట్లతో పాటు ఇద్దో ఈ జామ చెట్టు.జామ కాయలు కోయడంలో మాతో ఎవరన్నా పోటి పడగలరంటే అది  సాయంత్రం వచ్చే కోతి మూకే.జామ చెట్టు కొమ్మలు అంత తేలికగా విరగవు అని అమ్మ చెప్పింది.అందుకే కాస్త కూడ జంక కుండా ఇలా కొమ్మ అంచున నిలుచుంటాం.


మా ఆటలంతా గొడల పైనా,రేకు షెడ్డుల పైనా,డ్రైవింగు స్కూలు లోని మామిడి చెట్ల పైనా.సందుకి ఒక చివరి నుంచి మరో చివరకు నేల పై కాలు పెట్టకుండా వెల్లి పోతాము.కాని దాసాని పూల చెట్లకు ఆనుకొని వున్న  ఎత్తయిన కొట గోడ జోలికి మటుకు ఎప్పుడు వెల్ల లేదు.గోడ అవతలి కోట మా మేడ పై నుంచి కనపడేది .తోకలు,చెవ్వులు కత్తిరించిన డాబర్మ్యాన్ కుక్కలు ,పని వాల్లు తప్ప ఇంట్లో వారు ఎవరూ కనుబడరు.ఎప్పుడన్నా ఆటల్లో బంతి అటు వైపు పడితే మేడ పైకి వెల్లి పని వాల్లని కేక వేసే వాల్లమే కాని గోడ ఎక్కే ధైర్యం చెయ్యలేదు.ఆ గోడ వో సారి గోపీ ఎక్కాడని చరన్ చెప్తే నేను నమ్మలేదు.చరన్ మహేస్వర రావు గారి మనవడు.


ఏ గోడ అయినా క్షణాలలో ఎక్కటం గోపి గాడికి ఇడ్లీ తో పెట్టిన విద్య.డ్రైవింగు స్కూలు గోడకు ఆనుకొని ఆకాసాన్ని అంటుతున్న ఆ రెండు బూరగ చెట్లనూ గోపి తప్ప ఎవరూ ఎక్కలేదు ,ఎక్కలేరు.సంవస్తరానికి వోసారి వాడి చేత బూరగ కాయలు రాల గొట్టించి వాటితో పరుపులు ,దిండ్లు కుట్టిస్తారు.మూడు రోజుల నుంచి వాడు ఆడుకోవటానికి రాలేదు.వాల్ల నాన్న గారితో ఇల్లకి సున్నాలు వెయ్యడానికి వెల్లాడెమో అని వాసు అన్నాడు.


అందరం కలసి డీమిండాల్,దొంగా పోలీస్,కరెంటు షాకు తో పాటు నేను కనిపెట్టిన కమ్మాండో ఆట ఆడుతాం.దీనికి చెట్టుకొమ్మలతో,తర్మకోల్ తో తయారు చేసిన తుపాకిలు,బానాలు.టెంకాయి పిందెలు, పచ్చి జామకాయల,బూరగ కాయలు బాంబులు.


ఇ రోజు కూడ అలానే కొమ్మలు విరుస్తూ రేకుల షెడ్డు పై నిలుచుని దొరికిన పొడువాటి జామ కొమ్మ దోటి లా ఉపయొగిస్తూ బూరగ కాయలు కొడుతున్నను.జామ కొమ్మ బూరగ చెట్టు కొమ్మలో ఇరుకుంది.ఎంత లాగినా రావట్లేదు.ఇంతలో నా అయిన్స్టీన్ మెదడుకి వో తొంటరి ఆలోచన.స్పైడర్ మ్యాన్ లా షెడ్డు ఇటు నుంచి అటు వైపుకి ఆ జామ కొమ్మకు వ్రేలాడుతూ వెల్తే.వాసు చరన్ల వైపు చూసాను.వాల్లు తర్వాత నేను నేను అంటూ వచ్చి నా వెనక నిలబడి వూగు వూగు అంటూ ప్రోత్సహించారు.దానికి తోడు జామ చెట్టు కొమ్మ గురించి అమ్మ చెప్పిన మాటలు.చిన్నపటి నుంచి పెద్దల మాట చద్దనం మూట అన్న సామెత నాకు బాగ కలిసొచ్చిందనో ఎమో వూగాను.టార్జాన్ ల అటు వైపుకు చేరి గోడ పై నిలబడ్డాను.వాసు ,చరన్ మొహాలలో ఆత్రుత పెరిగింది .వెనక్కి వూగుదామని కాలు తో గోడను తన్నాను- నిటారుగా షెడ్డు పై కూలబడ్డాను ,నేను పడిన ప్రాంతం వరకే రేకు విరిగి దానితో పాటు ఏడు అడుగు లు గాల్లో వేసి నేల పై నిలుచున్నాను.ఉరుములా పెద్ద సెబ్దం చేస్తూ రేకు రెండు ముక్కలు అయింది.


రెండు ఇల్లలో పెద్ద వారందరూ పరుగెత్తి వచ్చారు.చేతిలో జామ చెట్టు కొమ్మ ,దానికి వేలాడుతున్న బూరగ కొమ్మతో నేను తీర్ద యాత్రకు బయలు దేరిన యోగి లా నిలబడ్డాను.అప్పటి వరకు ప్రోస్తహించిన వాసు మామిడి చెట్టులో,చరన్ షెడ్డులో దాకున్నారు.జరిగిన ఆస్తి నష్టం చూసిన పెద్దవాల్లు నాకు ఏమీ కాలేదని తెలిసి ఆనందించి ఎక్కువ తిట్ట లేదు.మోసం చేసింది జామ కొమ్మ కాదని బూరగ కొమ్మని తెలిసినా, చరిత్రలో ఇంతక ముందు ఎప్పుడూ లేని విదంగా పడటం నా పైన నాకే కోపం,అసహ్యం కలిగే లా చేసింది.అదే సంగటన మల్లి మల్లి గుర్తుకు వస్తోంది, రాత్రి పన్నెండు గంటలు అయినా నిద్ర పట్టట్లేదు.దానికి తోడు ఎప్పుడూ లేని విదంగా కోట లోని డాబర్మ్యాన్లు ఆగకుండా అరుస్తూనే వున్నాయి.


ఇంతలో దొంగ దొంగా అనే కోటేస్వర రావు అన్న అరుపులు వినబడ్డాయి.ఆ సమయం వరకూ డాబా పై కుర్చీ వేసుకొని చదువుకొనే చంద్ర సెకరు గారి అబ్బయి అయన వొక్కడే.నాన్నగారు లైట్లు వెయ్యగనే కోట గోడ పై రెండు నీడలు.అందరు బయటకు వచ్చే సరికి ఎవరు కనపడలేదు.పారి పొయ్యారు అనుకునే సమయానికి పొద్దున నేను పడినప్పుడు వచ్చినటువంటి పెద్ద సెబ్ధం.రేకుల షెడ్డు వైపు అందరు కర్రలు పట్టుకొని చిన్నగా వెల్ల్తూంటే అక్కడ వో కుర్రాడి ఆప్తనాదాలు.నాన్న గారు టార్చి లైటు  అటు వైపు తిప్పగానే అందరు ఆస్చర్య పోయాము.గోపి గాడు మా గోపి గాడు పక్కనే వాడి నాన్న,డబ్బు కట్టలు ,బంగారు నగలు చిరిగిన వో సంచి.


గోపి గాడు అలా చేసాడని మొదట బాధ వేసినా ,మూడు రోజుల నుంచి కోటకి సున్నం వేస్తూ ఎంతో కష్ట పడి వాల్లు వేసిన పధకానికి నా అయిన్స్టీన్ బుర్ర గొయ్యి తీసిందని తెలసి ఆనందం కలిగింది.హాయిగా నిద్రపొయ్యి పొద్దునే లేచి అదే ఉత్సాహంతో కోట గోడ ఎక్కి చరన్ ,వాసూల కోసం ఎదురు చూసాను.

Indian Literacy Rate Rises in 2011

India's effective literacy rate has recorded a 9.2 per cent rise to reach 74.04 per cent, according to provisional data of the 2011.

Kerala has the highest literacy rate at 93.91 per cent followed by Lakshadweep at 92.28 per cent. 

Legislative Assembly is at the bottom of the ladder with literacy rate of 20 percent followed by Parliament at 40 percent approximately.

Now we know why they argue and fight like kids in the assembly and where all the  government money is going - Towards their schooling.


It is only an approximation , as more than 50 percent of the members were absent from the assembly when the survey was conducted .

సింహపురి కధలు:కలి పురుషుడు ఎలా వుంటాడు సరోజా?

 పొద్దునే లేచి సంద్యా వందనం చెస్తుండగా భాగవత ఆరంబ గట్టాలు గుర్తుకు వచ్చాయి.వెంటనే వ్యాస భగవానుడు ,పరీక్షిత్ మహరాజు గ్నప్తికి వచ్చారు.కలిపురుషుని ఊహా చిత్రం మటుకు మనసుకి అందలేదు.కలి పురుషుడు ఎలా వుండి వుంటాడంటావ్ అని సరోజను అడిగితే ,రోజూ వుండే నసే అంటూ ఊరగయి జాడిలో పెట్ట సాగింది.పెళ్ళిల్లు చేయిస్తున్నా పూజలు చేయిస్తున్న ఆ ప్రస్న మటుకు నన్ను వేదించింది.వో వారం రొజులు తిండీ సరిగ్గా తినలేదు నిద్రా వేలకు పోలేదు.


అదే ద్యాసలో పరమాత్మను దూషిస్తూ పక్క వూరిలో పెళ్ళి చేయించి నా 1975 లూనా లో ఇంటికి బయలు దేరాను.ఎదో ఇన్ని రోజులూ సేవించింది కదా అని పాత బడినా దాన్ని మార్చలేదు.ఇంటి సందు మలుపు దగ్గర వున్నటుండి వో కుర్రవాడు ఒక చేత్తో ఫోను మాట్టడుతూ మరో చేత్తో మొటారు సైకిల్ నడుపుతూ రోడ్డుకి తప్పు వైపు నాకేసి దూసుకు వచ్చాడు.సమయానికి బ్రేకు వేసి ప్రమదం తప్పి చిన్న గాయాలు అయ్యాయి.ఆ కుర్రవాడి బైకు ఇటు వుండాల్సింది అటు తిరిగింది.

 
నేనేదో ముసలి వాడిని,నాకు ఎమన్నా అయితే వో రెండు మూడు నెలలు మంచాన పడుతాను.కుర్రాడివి,అసలే పరీక్షల సమయం, ని కాలో చెయ్యో విరిగితే ఒక విద్యా సంవస్తరం వ్రుదా అయ్యిపోదు.కాస్తా నిదానంగా పోవచ్చుగా.

 
బా చెప్పావ్ లే పో పోవయ్య .నేను కష్టపడి బ్రేక్ వేసి బ్యాలెన్సు చేసి తప్పిస్తే పెద్ద క్లాసు పీకుతున్నావ్.ఒకరికి చెప్పవలసి వస్తే ప్రతి ఒక్కరు వేద వ్యాసులే అంటూ బైకు కిక్కు కొట్టాడు..
 

నేను ఇంకేమి మాట్లాడలేదు.చిరు నవ్వు నవ్వి నేరుగా ఇంటికి వెల్లాను.బండి స్టాండు వేసి కడుపు నిండా బోంచేసి కునుకు తీస్తూ సరొజకు కలి పురుషుడి దర్సనం అయ్యిందని ఆనందంగా చెప్పాను.

సింహపురి కధలు:కల్లు తాగని కోతి బావలు

ముంగిట సంక్రాంతి ముగ్గునుంచి,టెంకాయి చెట్లు ,ఎర్ర పంచ, వెనక బర్రెల కొట్టాం తో ఎప్పుడూ బ్రుందావనం లా ప్రసాంతంగా వుండే మా ఇళ్ళు ,సెలవులకి బావలు ఇద్దరు వచ్చిన వెంటనే హనుమంతుని విసిట్ తరువాత లంకలా తయారయ్యింది.కోతి బావకి పెల్లంటా అనే పాట విన్న ప్రతి సారి నాకు వాల్లే గుర్తుకు వస్తారు.వాల్లిదరిలో ఎవరిని చేసుకుంటావ్ అని వూరిలో వారు అడిగితే ,వాల్ల ఇద్దరిని తప్పా ఎవరినైనా చేసుకుంటాను అని చెప్తాను.


చిన్నపుడు నన్ను భయపెట్టాలని సరదాగ బాత్ రూంలో పంపి బయట నుంచి చిలుకు వేసారు.వాల్లకి తెలియకుండా లోపల నుంచి నేను గొల్లెం వేసి తియ్యడం రాక ఏడ్వడం మొదలెట్టాను.అత్తమ్మ నేను బయటకు వచ్చేవరకు ఆగి వాల్ల వీపులు విమానం మోత మోగించింది.


మరో సారి నాటు కోడి గుడ్లతో ఆంలేట్ వెయ్యాలని వడ్ల గంపలోకి నన్ను దింపారు .పంది కొక్కుల కోసం అమర్చిన ముల్ల కంపపై కాలు వేసాను.నేను అరగంట ఏడిస్తే వాల్లు నానమ్మ దెబ్బలకు రోజంత ఎడ్చారు.


టినేజీ మొదలయినప్పటి నుంచి వూరికి వచ్చిన ప్రతి సారి వాల్లకి కల్లు తాగాలనే కోరిక.కాని వింజమూరులో కాని చుట్టుపక్కల వూర్లలో గాని తాతయ్యకు తెలిసిన వారు చూస్తారనే భయం.


దసరా వేషగాడిని పిచ్చి కుక్క తరిమి నట్టు పరిగెత్తు కొచ్చాడు మస్తాన్.సుగ్రీవుడికి హనుమంతుడిలా వీల్లకి మస్తాన్.ఎదో గుస గుస లాడారు.వెంటనే మస్తాన్ గాడి హిరో సైకిల్లో ముగ్గురు కలసి తుర్రు మన్నరు.పాముల బాయి తోట లోంచి మామిడి కాయలు,చరువు గట్టు దగ్గర నుంచి చింత కాయలు ,యానదయ్యకు చెప్పి లేత తాటికాయలు కొయ్యించి మద్యాహ్నానికి ఇంటికి చేరారు.


సీనూ బావ చింతకాయలు నూరుతుంటే,విష్నూ బావ తాటి ముంజలు తీసి చిల్లు పొడిచి వో గిన్నెలో వేసాడు.ఇంతలో మస్తాన్ మజ్జిగ తెచ్చి మామిడికాయలు ముక్కలుగా కోసాడు.ఎం చేస్తున్నరు అని అడిగినా అక్కడ నేనొక దాన్ని అసలు లేనట్టే నూరిన చింతకాయలు కోసిన తాటికాయలు,మామిడి కాయ ముక్కలు గిన్నెలో వేసి దాంట్లో మజ్జిగ పోసారు.


నాకు కొంచ్చెం ఇమ్మంటే నిద్ర లేచాక ఆలోచిస్తామంటూ దాన్ని ఫ్రిజ్జులో లోపల వుంచి కునుకు తీసారు.అదెలా వుంటుందో తెలుసుకోవాలనే ఆత్రుతతో ఫ్రిజ్జు తలుపు తెరిచాను ఫ్రిజంతా ఎదో కంపు . కూర చెడిందేమో అని,వెంటనే నానమ్మను పిలిచాను.బావలు పెట్టిన గిన్ని తెరచిన నానమ్మ వెంటనే బర్రెల కొట్టాం లోకి పెరిగెత్తి గిన్నెను కుడితి తొట్టిలో బోర్లించింది.

Mission Parrys : Bill Gates buys a PS3

Bill Gates concludes his inspiring Purdue University Speech with an anti piracy statement on how well they have worked with the FBI in controlling piracy. Soon an Indian student pops up and shouts - You are not only barking up the wrong tree but the wrong forest Mr. Gates.

While the Professors are shocked and surprised the students burst in to laughter. As the security gets closer to the Student, Gates shocked but not embarrassed asks them to stop and give the student a mike.

Random Indian Student:

 My name is Gandhi Reddy Mr. Gates. I am a huge fan of yours and Microsoft. No matter how sick I am I never ate an Apple, no matter how bad my OS sucks I never bought a MAC. You should visit Parrys Corner in Chennai, India to understand how freely and creatively piracy works. It is there where you can track back to the roots of this evil spread across other countries and fight them. And only then can you claim that you have control over it.

Taking up the challenge, Gates meets up with the FBI and tells them that he wants to be there in person for ‘Mission Parrys’.

FBI:

You have to wear a wire Mr. Gates. As soon as you press the button on this watch we will ride the place. This micro satellite device will allow us track your location. Two Drone Aircrafts will keep an eye on you.

Disguised as a Sardarji wearing a turban and beard, Gates lands in Chennai Meenambakkam Airport on a FBI Flight. He reaches Parrys Corner in an old fiat taxi driven by an FBI agent. He steps in to Amma  & Anna Video and Audio store and finds two guys watching TV.

Gates:

Do you have windows 7?

Anthony Chandrasekharan (Shop Owner):

No sir we only sell Original film audio and video CDs and DVDs.

Gates:

 Oh! Can you tell me a place where they sell software?

Anthony:

Sorry, I don’t know.

Gates walks out Disappointed and looks around for another store. Anthony comes out running and takes Gates back in to the store.

Anthony:

We might have an older version of windows.

Gates:

 I only need windows 7.

Anthony:

 Ok let me check.

He looks at the other guy in the store who is watching TV. The guy hits a button on the TV remote .One of the CD racks turns around. It is filled with hundreds of software DVDS starting from Windows 95 to Windows 7 and Snow Leopard.

Gates:

(Shocked) I want all of them and throws a thousand rupee bundle on the table.

Anthony:

(Takes the cash)  Are you planning to start a software company or a store of your own?

Gates Laughs and as he was about to hit the FBI button on his watch a shiny DVD in between those windows DVDs grabs his attention.

Gates:

What is that?

Anthony:

 Oh, that got in there accidentally. That’s a Harry Porter DVD.

Gates:

Which part?

Anthony:

All of them.

Gates:

Checks the Google stock price on his phone to make sure it’s not a dream. The stock grows further. How much?

Anthony:

 Since you are buying so many DVDs I will give it to you for 30 bucks. (He usually sells it for 15 to 20 rupees)

As Gates does the conversion in to dollars it ends up in 70 cents and his brain hangs like windows OS for a few seconds. He forgets about the mission and recovering he asks what else they have.

Anthony:

What we don’t have is an easy question to answer. We have all the major super hero movies in one DVD. All the Bond movies, name it we have it. Do you like games? We have a PS3.

Gates:

 I can buy that anywhere.

 Anthony:

(With a smile) This PS3 comes with its 360 GB hard drive full of games. While it costs 23K outside you only pays 18K.

Gates:

(Goes blank without a word for a minute) Dude your rock. You don’t know how much this means to me. I always wanted to have something like this my entire life. In between you and me that’s what kept me going all these years and that is what I do in my free time with my kids. It was an excruciating pain to search and buy those Sony games. Is this original?

Anthony:

The case is.

Gates:

That will do. Pack it for me please.

As he walks out filled with eternal happiness he plucks out the wires and throws them in the trash can. He hands off the windows DVDs to the FBI Driver and walks on the footpath to the Kasimedu beach. He Draws a 'F1' symbol on the sand and sits smiling for himself for an hour looking at the waves. As the ocean swallows the sun an FBI chopper comes down like the rain hiding behind the clouds and takes him back.

Choosing your path to USA: Why and How

With the increasing number of opportunities and the quality of life restoring in India you should take extra caution while leaving the country. What looks like a solid plan for the next few years might change the entire course of your life. The energies at this point of your life should not be used in any other means except for the betterment of you and your family. So it is important for you to understand and make a conscious choice on why and how to come to the USA. The list can be exhaustive and these are only a few popular routes.

As a Student with average GRE scores

A low GRE score means an admission in to a college with little or no Financial Aid. It will be an extension to your college/student life for sure. But there is an underlying struggle to study, work and earn a job. Unlike your bachelors where your parents will be bearing the fees, in most cases we feel obligated to pay back the big bank loan. Very few students here make it to the full time jobs. Part of it is because of the companies not sponsoring the visas avoiding the immigration hassle. So the students are sucked in to the vicious consultancy firms and their lethargic guest houses. These parasites mint money right from your OPT(Optional Practical Training ) period ,promising you a VISA and Green Card. Putting you masters degree aside your job search will start with a minimum of eight plus years of fake experience for your resume to be considered.

As a Student with good GRE scores

With an Aid and admission in to a reputed university things are better organized. You will be able to work with highly qualified professors using the latest of technologies and equipment. Unless the markets are really bad you can work as an intern for a good company and grab a full time offer while in campus. These companies offer good salary and benefit packages. They also process your visas and green cards professionally on time.

Through your current employer on a L1 VISA

L1 visa allows you to work for a branch of your company in America. The advantage of an L1 over other visa types is that your spouse on a L2 visa will be able to work. On the downside you will not be able to switch to a different employer. Unlike H1, a L1 visa cannot be transferred.A fresh out of the quota H1 has to be applied. While the US based companies pay decent salaries, the offshore Indian companies which bring their talent onsite, live on lower end of the salary scale knowing that you cannot switch. Also the management sees this as a big favor they are doing for you and expect the returns by you managing the projects and the offshore teams in your personal time. They rarely do your Green Cards afraid that you might run away.

Through your current employer on a H1 VISA

The offshore companies do H1 Visas as it is tough to get a L1 visas for professionals with a non computer science degree. While you have the option to take another job and get your H1b transferred, these companies make you sign a bond stating you can’t switch. And you should work for them for a certain period once you return. This bond gets renewed every time you travel. Every time I hear the word bond the sound of slavery echoes. Even if they have spent money training you on the latest of technologies if they cannot keep you happy you should not work for them. That was one reason I chose to come here through another consulting (body shopping) company leaving Tata Consultancy Services. I LOVE TCS. But I trust my work more than my company :).

As a experienced skilled worker through a consulting (body shopping) company on a H1 VISA

While working for one company in India you can get your H1B processed through another based in US. Get in touch with your friends and relatives in the states and know about the company, current hot skills in the job market. Refresh your skills and train yourself on how to learn new skills quickly. If you make the right moves on time you can get your EAD or Green Card which will open the door of opportunities. Never submit your marks cards or any other documents or sign a bond with your visa sponsor. Instead find a different employer. Although they eat up a fair amount from your paycheck initially you have the option to switch to a better employer when you are ready.

As a worker with little or no work experience through a consulting company on a H1 VISA

It is a safe practice to stand on your feet properly before you hop on to the next step. I have seen friends coming here without the minimum required work experience only to struggle. With the current USCIS scrutiny the number of such companies and workers have gone down. But even if there is employers sponsoring your H1B this is not a good place to be. As you will take a while to settle down in the professional space it will further delay the other aspects of your personal life. I have seen families well settled in India migrating here due to peer pressure and standing the pain of immigration lines and visas for their dependents. Unlike in India, your dependent no matter how highly qualified also needs a H1 Visa to work.

The friend or colleague you follow today might not be able to help you with the immigration or job problems later. Be clear on why you want to come here and the path you choose. Unless you have a very good GRE score and Aid think twice before coming for MS. It is definitely not a preferred way to extend your student life. Very few companies consider you for a job based on your master’s degree alone. Instead if you get a good job offer in India take it. The experience you gain over the years will help you go places and not just the US. While coming here on a work visa make sure the job markets here are good and try to be the best at what you do. While you might be paid less, coming here through an offshore company is a safe bet. And if you are confident that you can find a job irrespective of the company then go with the body shopping consultancies. Never rush or get frustrated when things don’t happen as expected.
